Getting to Holbox: The Ferry

Before we start talking about transfers, flights and buses, the first thing you need to know is that to cross to Holbox, you first have to arrive at the ferry port in the village of Chiquilá. You cannot take a ferry from Playa del Carmen or Cancún. There are two ferry companies with services to Holbox which run approximately every half an hour. The first ferry to Holbox from Chiquila is at 6.30am and the last ferry to Holbox is at 9.30pm. The first return from Holbox to Chiquilá is at 5am in the morning and the last is at 8.30pm. Please be aware that after the last ferry crossing at 9.30pm, it’s difficult to get to the island.
