Chichen Itza

Chichen Itza is not the most visited archaeological site in Mexico for no reason. A protected heritage site, these famous Mayan ruins are a must-see when in this area of the world. Meaning 'at the mouth of the well of Itza', these ancient ruins date back to 600AD and until 1200AD were the centre of the Northern Maya Lowlands.

With over 5 square kilometres of sites to explore, you can see a range of architectural styles, following the history of Chichen Itza from its early development. It is believed that, in fact, this once thriving Mayan hub, was never actually abandoned and when the Spanish conquistadors arrived in the area, they found a fully functioning, busy city.
